The Palmetto Center for the Arts (PCA) Magnet Program and Richland School District 2 are proud to present an original production, The Uncrackables. The performance will be held on Thursday, November 5 and Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 7pm in the Richland School District Two Auditorium. Tickets will be $6 for adults and $3 for students, the military and senior citizens with proper ID and will be available in the box office before the performance. Tickets may be purchased online at www.pcadance.org. There will be a $1.21 surcharge for each ticket purchased online.
The performance features an original production created by PCA Dance Program Director, Anne S. Richardson, combining the story of Al Capone, Elliott Ness, and the Nutcracker told through jazz, ballet, and dances of the 1920’s. PCA Dance students will create podcasts that will also be used in the production that provide background information on the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. Richland Two Technology Integration Specialist, Susan McCarthy, worked with students to research and create this portion of the performance.
PCA Dance students will be the featured performers in the production along with Richland Two dance students from Conder Elementary, Round Top Elementary, and Dent Middle Schools. Al Capone will be danced by PCA Senior, Tevin Williams, Elliott Ness will be danced by PCA Theatre Senior, Torren Grimes, and Bugs Malone will be danced by PCA Junior Dance student, Haley Schmit. The role of Mae, Al’s wife, will be danced by PCA Sophomore Dance student, Kamilah Coleman. Stephen Ferguson, Culture Splash Artistic Director, will dance the role of Frank.
Ralph Schmidt, Richland Northeast Principal, will dance the role of Chef Guido, and RNE faculty members Betsy Kinsella, Pam Bell, Kimberly Norris-Jones, and Laura Moore will dance as flappers at the speakeasy. Dance teachers, Nicole Hardenberg at Round Top Elementary School, Veneshia Stribling at Conder Elementary School, and Stephanie Jones at Dent Middle School, will round out the artistic staff for the production.
The performance will be appropriate for children and adults to enjoy. The story line does include factual information regarding the life of Al Capone and adds the Nutcracker as a gift that Al gives to his wife, Mae. The Nutcracker is full of diamonds and becomes a target for Bugs Malone to steal and lead into a frantic chase. For more information, contact Anne S.
